In 1985, Ken & Sharon's little girl, Sian was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (primitive neuroectodermal tumour). She passed in early 1986 at just 17 months of age.

In her memory, Ken & Sharon started The Sian Bradwell Fund in 1986, to help children with cancer and their families by purchasing medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment (no toys, salaries or research). While the Oncology department is the main recipient of funds raised, equipment may also be purchased for other departments where children with cancer are treated or where there is an especially urgent need, for other areas of the hospital.
